Visoko was political, cultural and business centre during the Middle Ages, when it was royal town and trading centre. The curch in Mili was crown and burial site of Bosnian rulers. There was crowned and buried the first Bosnan king Tvrtko I Kotromanic.
The Charter of Kulin ban, the oldest written monument of Bosna and Herzegovina, was written here in 1189. The Charter is the oldest remained monument of Bosnian language.
